Your legacy of heroes each have their own little distinct visual flourishes to make them unique – they all have the same basic elements (metal armour and a shiny sword swinging animation) but it’s always amusing watching one with coprolalia swearing like a sailor every time they get hit or one with gigantism taking up the whole of the screen. Hardly a looker, Rogue Legacy embraces its random-elements design with four distinct areas and memorable enemy design – it does the job, but I can’t say I came away particularly impressed with anything. Rogue Legacy is all about its roguelike platforming gameplay and it shows – other aspects definitely take a back seat. What doesn’t work quite as well is the rather bizarre story, which is hidden away in journal entries you discover when poking around the randomly-generated rooms of the castle. It tells the tale of the King and Johannes, the first Knight and your ancestor who ventured into this place for the first time – but other than this, I got a bit confused about what happened and overall didn’t get invested in the plot here. Stronger gear will obviously be in the harder regions. In Rogue Legacy, you control a literal family of adventurers as they venture into a castle in search of lost treasures and to find answers to their ancestry. Each new child you control has their own personality and traits based on what’s come before them which feeds into the central theme – and works really well. EDIT 3: According to ShotyMcFat, the region of the dungeon you are in will change what you find. I personally did not use the compass, but this can help guide you to items such as blueprints or stat ups. It can usually guarantee finding a blueprint in the secret room it guides you to. EDIT 2: According to MemoriesOfFinal, getting Calypso's Compass will be a huge help. Either way, it is possible to get very high level gear early (just might take a while). This might be because of reaching such a high level. EDIT: According to Hikaru No Go, you can find items even in the 3rd and 4th columns during your first run through the castle. Eventually, you'll get everything and finish the requirement for the achievement. Really focus on exploring the castle and finding treasure chests throughout. All in all, take your time and get the equipment. It might be possible to finish it on NG+, but I had done a speedy run of NG+ in order to finish 2 runs in one session and receive the "Beat the Game Twice" achievement. I required NG+ and NG+2 to get the achievement. The achievement will not unlock when you grab the last blueprint but after speaking to him when he has received them all. You need to speak to the blacksmith to get the achievement. These rooms usually have a ? over them on the map so if you're using a Miner/Spelunker, that's how the room will appear on the legend. As I said above, the gold chests for mini-bosses frequently hold blueprints. There are cases when a regular chest holds that hold the blueprints, but they are much less likely. These are more likely to contain the equipment blueprints. For the equipment, here are some things to look out for: -Typically, the gear blueprint is in either an iron lined chest or the gold chests for defeating a mini-boss. ![]() (This makes it much harder than the Rune collector since you can find all the runes in your first run through the game). But after, that it will be very, VERY rare to see equipment. ![]() In your first run through the game, you will likely be able to get items from the first two columns of each type of gear. This is going to require multiple playthroughs to get.
